I talk to a lot of women and there are always a few common themes that keep popping up – overwhelm, focus, getting the right balance (and a few more)

But there is always an underlying issue going on which makes you self-sabotage sometimes and you end up getting in your own way – nobody else is to blame here, you are in fact doing it to yourself!

So, how are you getting in your own way at the minute?

You Need to Stop Pissing About on Facebook / Instagram / Tik Tok

I want you to be totally honest with yourself now and ask yourself these questions truthfully:

How much time do you spend scrolling through your feed?

What I want you to do over the next few days is keep track of what time you spend on social media. You need to be really honest with yourself now – you need to know how much time you are spending on Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok

What could you be doing instead?

Imagine all the jobs you could tick off your list if you stopped pissing about and focused on what you should be doing!

I don’t want you to be too hard on yourself here, please realise that other people are guilty of this as well (me included not too long ago) and it’s a habit you can soon get out of the habit of doing quite quickly

You Don’t Want to Have an Expensive Hobby

Unless you’re really lucky, I’m assuming you’ve got some bills that need to be paid! If you aren’t taking your business seriously and doing what you can to make it successful and earning money, then I’m sorry to tell you but you have an expensive holiday and NOT a business

Now is the time for you to stop pissing about and crack on so that you can go from an expensive holiday to a successful business. If you need some help in this area, check out working with me

One way you can start getting out of your own way is to set some big ass goals and create an action plan so you know what you need to be doing to achieve them

What Are You Telling Yourself That Isn’t Helping?

We all have a little voice inside us that whispers in our ears feeding any insecurities we have. Everybody is different but some of the common things I hear are:

  • I can’t do this
  • I’m not good enough
  • I should just go and get a proper job
  • Who’s going to buy from me?

This is something that can be a little tricky but you need to tell that voice to piss off, you don’t need to listen to it because I can categorically tell you that you are good enough, you can do this and if you market your business to the right people, they will buy from you

Time to Create Some Good Habits That Work for You

If you really want to get out of your own way and stop sabotaging your chances of creating a successful business, you need to set some good habits now

When it comes to actually getting shit done, tdo these three things:

Do a Brain Dump

Think of it like a download. This takes everything out of your head and on to a piece of paper. Every single task, every idea you have, write it down. Think about projects you want to do, what are the tasks involved.

What happens is you’re literally freeing up space in your head so you’re not feeling so stressed that things haven’t been done. You now have this master list which you can use to prioritise the work that will move you closer to your goals and bring money into the business – we all want that don’t we?

This isn’t a complicated task, literally write down what’s in your head. For example, if you have a new product, what work do you need to do to launch it etc?

Prioritise Work

Once you’ve done your Brain Dump, I tend to split mine into three categories that suit my life – personal / home, home education, business.

You then need to go through everything and prioritise the tasks that you need to be doing first. The key here is to ask yourself 2 questions:

• Will this bring money into the business?
• Will this move me closer to achieving my goal?

If the answer to either of those questions are no, then you don’t focus time at the moment for that task … or you delegate the work to get it done (or even delete it).

Congratulations, you’ve now created your to do list!

Break Your to Do List into Chunks of Time

One thing that my clients have found helped them so much is to break tasks down into small chunks that will take 5, 10 or 30 minutes to complete. They can then easily manage what work they can get done in the time they have available.

Your Business = Your Rules

One of the great and empowering things about running your own business is the ability to choose who you want to work with – no more being dictated to by any bosses!

Think about the type of person you like working with, what have they got in common? What industry are they in? What are their biggest challenges that you can help them with?

For my first business as a Virtual Assistant, I worked with Coaches and Trainers as I had experience working with these people and I enjoyed the work that they needed completed. This made them my ideal client and these were the people I focussed my marketing attention on

Work out your ideal client but don’t think it has to be set in stone. You can change your ideal client as your business evolves and you build new products and skills

You also get to decide when and where you work so this is where you make sure that your business works for you and your family
